on track..?

I'm having some trouble finding historical pictures of high enough resolutiom and I realize the clock is ticking. I guess I'll make another reluctant stop at the history center and see what they can offer me. Anyone have any good ideas on where else I could look? I have a test tomorrow at 8am, but after that this project is my week..I'm going to stay during lab tomorrow and work on flash..is there any way those of you with photos could bring them on a disk or with a website I could pull them off of?

yeah, i explored the PCL today only to find that EVERY SINGLE AUSTIN BOOK I HAD ON MY LIST WAS CHECKED OUT UNTIL THE 17th!! Literally. And some of the ones that weren't checked out just weren't even there. If they aren't returned by the 17th, or are rechecked, I'm going to be very worried. There are a few copies scattered around different UT department libraries so I'll have to track them down. I can't scan what I don't have.

Have you been to the HRC? They have pretty extensive photo archives, and that seems like something they might have. Also, I'll burn all the pictures Russ and I have taken onto a CD and bring it tomorrow.

yeah, good call, the HRC might be a good idea..I just don't know if I have time to go through any special classes about how to wear gloves and touch old photos, nor do I know if they allow the scanning of photos. I'll stop there and find out though..it is a really good resource..just be aware I'm not going to have it by tomorrow. Actually it might be a good idea to ask the watergate group what they know about the HRC since it's so central to their project.

So in order to even use research at the HRC I'm going to have to submit an application along with a letter stating the scope, subject and reason for my research. Whatever. Scanning photos requires weeks of waiting and review of their copyrights. This is why I was so upset about the PCL books being checked out...scanning information from them would be so much easier.

That's right. I forgot that the HRC is so anal about using the collections. I think that since I am in the English department, I don't have to do all that. Plus I have some buddies who work there. I'll see what I can do about getting pictures, and I'll look into the copyright situation.

What kinds of historical photos are we hoping for?
